Conference: The Civic Crowdfunding City

The central theme of the conference is “The Civic Crowdfunding City” or, in other words,  the impact of civic crowdfunding on cities. We have invited six other civic crowdfunding platforms which specifically focus on social urban development:  La Ruche (Quebec), Patronicity (Detroit), Spacehive (London), Co-city (Paris), Voor Je buurt (a.o. Amsterdam) and, via match funding, Goteo (o.a. Barcelona). Together we’ll exchange and think about these research questions:

  • Which kind of urbanity is created through civic crowdfunding on the long term?
  • What are the characteristics of this city?  And what are the pre-conditions to create this city?
  • How democratic is this city? What is the role of the local government(s) and local business communities?

Together with experts from the other urban civic crowdfunding platforms, academia, policy makers and activists, we’ll try to put civic crowdfunding on the policy and research agenda.
